What Are You Hanging Onto?

Certainly you have noticed how much bad news we are hearing these days. Everyone has become a prophet, predicting how or when the nation, indeed the world, will collapse into chaos.


How did this happen?


Answer: Humanity, for about fifty years, has moved from monarchies, dictatorships, and socialist states to greed. Systems of government have changed, but greed is driving men in the highest places and in the lowest places of human society.


The proliferation of products, and the amazing number of choices the whole world enjoys, have given men a feeling that material things will last forever. Humanity has also come to assume that certain things MUST come to them. Most people feel entitled to something-- "I have a right......"


Humanity has also become convinced that life must be fair-- that people must be nice to each other, especially ME. Leaders win their positions in Parliaments and Congresses by promising people things and money and success.


All of this is driven by technology, which is seen as the eternal vehicle into the future.


Who is left out? Answer: God.


If God really does exist, and he does, then he will not let this picture go on indefinitely. He will trash it. The people of Sodom were sexual perverts, that is true. But, they were destroyed for other sins:


Ezekiel 16:49 (KJV) Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.


Read the list again please. This is exactly how humanity lives today, that is, "civilized" humanity. There are traditional cultures still back in the forests, along the Equator, who live as they have for centuries. But, modern man, especially in America and Europe and Asia are essentially committed Sodomites.


Romans 1:19 (KJV) Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,


So, God will soon trash the whole thing. Men will become enraged, and they will know it is God doing it to them. But, they will not repent. We have finished the climb to the pinnacle of human success, and we think we are gods.


Here is how God described his plan to destroy a king thousands of years ago:


Ezekiel 21:24 (KJV) Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye have made your iniquity to be remembered, in that your transgressions are discovered, so that in all your doings your sins do appear; because, I say, that ye are come to remembrance, ye shall be taken with the hand.
25 And thou, profane wicked prince of Israel, whose day is come, when iniquity shall have an end,
26 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Remove the diadem, and take off the crown: this shall not be the same: exalt him that is low, and abase him that is high.
27 I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it: and it shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give it him.


He did this again with the Greeks, the Romans, the Turks, the British, and the Communist empire. He will do it to America next. Then God will turn and destroy Europe.


So, what is the good news? What is the hope of the Bible believer who is alone in society if he still gives glory to God for his blessings.


Psalms 16:6 (KJV) The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.
7 I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.
8 I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.



By the way, I am NOT suggesting you look for God and the Savior in the modern whore called the Emergent Church, Seeker Sensitive Church, or Purpose Driven Church. These systems are making the local church a place to market a mongrel Christ. 

You may have to just sit down, open a King James Bible, and find that place of peace through Jesus Christ all alone. As with the prophets long ago, being "Stayed Upon Jehovah" will mean being alone.

So, it may come to this-- Alone with Christ and at peace, or chasing the thrilling throng to chaos.
