After the Hong Kong Marathon 2011, Ashley is, as predicted, aiming to compete in some major races. He has targeted a handful few already. He was congratulated by Mr C. Kunalan for his improvement in the marathon race in Hong Kong doing a time of 2hrs 45mins, overseas. Mr Kunalan even wanted to fork out his cash to pay me for part of the cost for transportation, accommodation, air travel and food. I was touched by his gesture and told him that it was not necessary to do this. What matters most was the thought. Thought counts!
Since the triathlon race is coming up, Ashley has done his next preparation to do well in the race. As such, without saying much, let us find out more on his next challenge in the trathlon race.

An Interview With Ashley Liew.
What is the race that you are about to run this year?
The Aviva Singapore Ironman 70.3 triathlon on 20 March.
What made you to choose this instead of the running race only?
Triathlon offers a different challenge and experience from pure running, so since 2007 I have made this particular race an annual must-do. This year is no different but in addition I am gunning for top spots.
Have you recovered yourself for this race?
Yes. After Hong Kong marathon I ached for less than a week so by now I’m more than fully rested.
Any support from anyone to do well in this race?
Yeah! From father, girlfriend, training partners, coach and sponsors.
What is your preparation like for this race?
Since the lead-up to Hong Kong marathon was mainly pure running, I have been doing what I can to squeeze in the much-needed swims, long bike rides, and brick (bike to run) trainings. It is less than ideal but I have to make the most out of it.
Are you able to study and train well around this period?
It is possible but very stressful, since school involves a lot of project work which can bring about unpredictable stress and disturbed sleep patterns.
How serious are you for this race?
It is not going to be my most important race to date, but I am still taking it very seriously come race day. The most important thing would be to achieve a PB so pushing is needed every step along the way.
What is your next target for the marathon race?
To achieve a personal best and break 2hr40min.
How is your feeling now as you have done 2hr 45min for the marathon?
Hungry for more.
What is your long term target?
Hopefully for and compete in the SEA Games marathon, and perhaps one day hope (some call it dream) of making it to the Olympics too.
