Cowboy and country music are the genre of Texas, right?
Well, here is something different. It is a tribute to one of the old cowboys of the XIT ranch in the Texas Panhandle.
The XIT was the biggest fenced ranch in the world long ago, and it is still a busy place with loads of tourist attractions, though much of the original ranch has been sold off.
Charlie Rutlage is the cowboy who died in a cattle round up in 1920. Later, Bam White of the XIT became nationally famous in a only film produced by the US Government to show the horrors of the Dust Bowl. Bam White seems to be the "Kid White" of this musical piece. The XIT survived the Dust Bowl, barely, to keep operating until the present.
Like I said, something very different from Texas-- something that proves that Texas is NOT your garden variety state:
Read about the XIT.
So, the XIT is just another of the biggest things found in Texas:
The XIT was the original state capital. Right-- crazy. The state traded it to a building firm from Chicago on the condition the builders built a state capital seven feet taller than the US Capitol building in Washington DC. The builders used Sunset Red Texas granite, and the result is a pink capital. Right-- crazy-- only in Texas:
