SEOUL - A NEWS report says a North Korean man has arrived on a South Korean island in an apparent defection.
Yonhap news agency cites residents on Baengnyeong Island as saying the man drifted at sea in a small boat before reaching the island near the tense western sea border with North Korea on Saturday.
Yonhap says police and military officials plan to question the man over his apparent defection.
South Korea's Defence Ministry said it could not confirm the report because the matter was being handled by the National Intelligence Service. Repeated calls to the spy agency went unanswered.
According to South Korea's Unification Ministry, more than 20,000 North Koreans have arrived in the South since the 1950-53 Korean War ended with a cease-fire. -- AP
