JAKARTA - A 5.6-MAGNITUDE earthquake struck off northern Indonesia's Sumatra island on Thursday, the US Geological Survey said.
There was no tsunami warning.
The moderate quake struck at a depth of 52km at 7.01am (0001 GMT, 8.01am Singapore time) 190km south-east of Banda Aceh, near the site of a devastating quake in December 2004 that triggered the Asian tsunami.
Indonesia sits on the Pacific 'Ring of Fire', where the meeting of continental plates causes high seismic activity. -- AFP
