BEIJING - A STATE-RUN newspaper in China says a pair of murder suspects went on a shooting and carjacking spree, when police tried to detain them, killing three officers and wounding six others.
The shootout in Tai'an city in Shandong province on the east coast was highly unusual for China where private gun ownership is illegal.
The China Daily newspaper said the suspects hijacked four cars in a row, shooting two of the drivers, before they were rammed by a squad car.
Three officers died in the shootout with the gunmen, who were armed with a handmade pistol and a double-barreled shotgun. One of the suspects shot himself to death and another was taken into custody. -- AP
