In fact, there is an even more fair tax-- Sales Tax. If all revenue were gathered by ONLY sales tax, then the poor could elect not to buy what they could not afford, while the rich would buy what they pleased. This way, the rich would pay the most of the tax load, but even the rich would not be coerced or forced to participate if they simply did not buy everything they craved.
