Rarely do you see the conundrum faced by state governments spelled out so clearly in a news article. Everyone knows that the finances of the State of Illinois are out of control and need to be reigned in. Governor Pat Quinn, when not debasing himself by taking the "Cinnamon Challenge" on live radio, is actually slowly working his way towards doing something about it. Here is a Quad Cities television station with the details:
Gov. Pat Quinn's own documents suggest his plan to close state facilities would cost Illinois at least 2,300 jobs and $250 million in economic activity. And here is the conundrum:
So far, Quinn has filed economic impact statements on just 8 of the 14 prisons, mental institutions and other facilities he wants to close. When more reports are filed, the total impact could be significantly higher.
For instance, closures planned in Centralia and Joliet will cost another 600 jobs just in state layoffs.
The Democratic governor says Illinois must cut spending to ease budget problems.
But critics call it short-sighted to make cuts that will eliminate jobs at the same time Illinois is trying to stimulate the economy.Once again, we see Spoiled Rotten Nation in all of its glory. We just CAN'T live within our means because it would HURT the economy. Yes, it sucks that people are going to lose their jobs due to these budget cuts, but I just wish that for once those "critics" would answer a simple question: if not now, when?
Bonus: A little ditty from the Pride of Rockford, Illinois
