Kenyan David Rudisha has broken the long standing 800m world record in Berlin and he has gone and done it again this time in Rieti, Italy. It is the seond time in a week, Rudisha set a new time of 1min 41.01sec. Previously, last Sunday in Berlin, Rudisha had broken Wilson Kipketer's 13-year-old record by two hundredths of a second, with a time of 1:41.09. He had forecasted to reporters in Berlin that he could go faster and he kept true to his word, shaving 8 hundredths of a second off his week old record.

Rudisha was taken through the bell by compatriot pace-setter Sammy Tangui in 48.20sec before taking off on his own to win by almost two seconds from Boaz Kiplagat Lalang, also from Kenya. Great Britain's Michael Rimmer - the European silver medallist - took fourth in a personal best 1.43.89, which moved him to sixth on the all-time national list.
