CHINESE Premier Wen Jiabao visits India

BEIJING - CHINESE Premier Wen Jiabao visits India this week as part of efforts to build trust between the rival neighbors amid a string of lingering disputes over territory, trade and telecoms.

The Foreign Ministry said on Monday that Mr Wen would also visit Pakistan on a five-day trip starting on Wednesday.

The India visit follows one to China by Indian President Pratibha Patil in May - the first by an Indian head of state in a decade - and comes on the heels of a 14th round of discussions aimed at settling disputes over their border high in the Himalayas.

The sides are expected to sign a series of agreements in areas ranging from trade to renewable energy to infrastructure development, although no major breakthroughs are expected. -- AP
