Celebrity of the Week: Edison Chen

Edison Chen is an actor from Hong Kong, who starred in "The Grudge 2" and also had a small stint in "The Dark Knight". I had serious obsessions with the Grudge franchise a few years back and Edison was pretty much the male lead in the show, so therefore here he is as a diverse male and celebrity of colour. How open-minded and culturally aware am I? ("Very", if you were straining for the right word.)

Edison had a sex scandal that caused a huge meltdown in Hong Kong a wee-while ago because, while getting his laptop serviced, the servicemen found and released hundreds of photos and videos of him getting it on with other famous & well respected Chinese actresses, many of which are only a google search away. I happen to love sex scandals and one day look forward to having my own, so high-five to you Edison!

Unfortunately no one in Hong Kong thought similar and his career was kinda destroyed. He should move to America, because half the celebrities spawned from a sex scandal. (Paris and Kim, I love you dearly, but you know it's true.)

Paris Hilton & My Verdict

You know how when you think of some people, one thing comes to mind like "computer geek", "hunter", "big fat slut" (or BFS for short ;D), well from my experiences anyway, about one or two years ago the thing I would have been known for was for loving Paris Hilton and defending her to the bone, which by the looks of her isn't that deep. And I'm jealous.

Lately she's been in the news for being pulled over and allegedly having 0.8 grams of cocaine in her purse. I'm not sure what to make of this story really. I love Paris Hilton and would be truly horrified, really, to think of her facing up to a 4 year maximum sentence - crazy! I really hope she gets found out to be proven innocent, I'm not so naive as to think this situation is impossible - but I do hold a lot of faith in Paris and believe her to be a pretty good role model.

At first glance it may seem just stupid to call her a role model, but why is that? She's been to prison, had a sex tape, faced many scandals and represented negatively-portrayed ideals like excess. However I think it's stupid to pick a role model that seems unrealistically perfect. People that would say dumb things like "I look up to Mother Teresa" or whatever is just stupid, Paris has made some mistakes and from what I know, she's learnt one or two things from them. Even if she does get proven guilty, I'm not going to condemn her. I'm not pro-drugs or anything, but they can't be as horrific as the media loves to portray. It's not like Paris is falling apart, she's making more money than God AND keeping her head in the spotlight ten years after her not-so-grand debut.

For me, I'm going to believe in the good old saying, "Innocent until proven guilty."

Celebrity of the Week: Tobey Maguire

So yesterday I saw that "Spider-Man 3" was on TV and I thought I'd watch it, I did, and it reminded me of how much I loved Marvel comic book heros and how Tobey Maguire bought so much life to the infamous character! When I was little, I always begged my parents to get me comics and every so often they would and I always got anything Marvel - usually X-Men, but frequently Spider-Man too!

Tobey Maguire is my first ever male celebrity of the week, which wasn't done incidentally, I just thought it was a bit boring to do any males as they're never really as exciting as celebrities like Paris, Lindsay or Britney now, are they? Those girls are just the gifts that keep on giving, 'specially Lindsay Lohan - but now that's she's been sentenced to 90 days in jail and another 90 in rehab, you know she's 50/50 to recover really well and turn boring (ie. Paris, sorry, I love her & I'm glad - but I preferred her panty-less party girl days) or she'll become even worse and something horrific will happen to her. I hope the first, but only if she continues her acting/singing career, as she was pretty good at both if you ask me!

Anyway, talk about side-tracked! I also love Kirsten Dunst, who hopefully I will remember to do a C.O.T.W. on one day. I just reckon Tobey is a great actor, wasn't worried about not looking that great in the movies and just succeeded in general.

Mmmhh Honey B

...and this is why I love Kathy Griffin. Who else over 50 would bear a bikini next to Paris Hilton? I certainly wouldn't, let alone in 30+ years. Good grief. Nothing to blog about my life is shit. :) Click on the title of this post for another picture.

Can't blame a pretty woman for wanting to be photographed, the paparazzi ate that shit up.

Celebrity of the Week: Paris Hilton

Ok, so I know what you're thinking and for some fucked up reason - people tend to not like Paris, which to me is completely reasonable impossible for me to understand. Paris Hilton is basically the epitome of celebrity. These days she is far less hunted down as she was a few years ago, but it's fair to say you'd be hard pressed to find anyone in the Western World that had never heard of her! She may have been named the "Most Overrated Celebrity" by the Guinness World Records book a few years ago - but anyone denying her as a successful business woman is losing it. There's hundreds of celebrities in the world, but you have to realize - she knew how to stand out! She knew that magazines wouldn't print pictures of her in the same outfit more than once in a day, so that's why she changes sometimes 3 or 4 times a day to ensure maximum exposure. At first thought, haters would assume she's just attention-seeking, which in a way - she is, but the real motive? Publicity! Publicity = money, and that's what everyone wants - right?

Paris has heaps of commercial products to sell, fragrances (she has 9, more than any other celebrity), books, clothing, hair straighteners & curlers, shoes, purses, sunglasses a music album, TV shows, movie & god knows how many other things! She really is more than just the "bimbo" she was perceived to be on "The Simple Life" with Nicole Richie. I love Paris and I think everything about her is exciting! Enjoy this cool interview.

Celebrity of the Week: Kathy Griffin

Comedienne Kathy Griffin is my "Celebrity of the Week" for many reasons, and I adore her so much it's hard to really explain how or why! I had vaguely heard of her reality show "Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List" before, but never really knew who she was or what her show was until my ex-workmate Mark gave me the first two episodes of Season 5 on a DVD he made me! Instantly I fell in love with her and watched the whole rest of Season 5 (and 4 now) and enjoyed every second of it! She makes me laugh so hard! Each season kind of has a different theme but the main thing is, she's trying to get more famous and she's very shameless (and comedic) in her approach in doing this. She proudly admits she's on the 'D-List', although these days, she's looking a little more A-List. She has made various headlines throughout her career. Firstly, she's done many sell-out tours as a stand-up comic (her forte), and gained her early fame from starring on "Suddenly Susan" with Brooke Shields. Also,

I recently read her auto-bio "Official Book Club Selection", named so readers would think she was on Oprah's book club, and it exposed a lot about her life! As well as it being HILARIOUS, it showed just how hard she had worked to get to where she is now - she literally earned every inch of the fame she has and mainly, earned it through hard work and talent, and she deserves all she has!

She's released two Comedy albums, 'For Your Consideration' and 'Suckin' It for the Holidays' which were both Grammy nominated and hilar (but unfortunately, she didn't win. F-ing Colbert...). Her reality show has won 2 Emmy Awards, which is pretty amazing! (AND deserved!) Kathy has also done the NOH8 campaign (a great cause) which was good. She's hung out with many famous A-Listers on the D-List, Season 5 featured Bette Midler, Lily Tomlin, Paris Hilton, T.I. and Suzanne Somers.

My overall reason for loving Kathy Griffin... she makes me laugh!
